Upgrades Shell Egg Recall to "Major" |
| The
FDA has now classified the recall of shell eggs as a major recall.
Second Harvest
Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin did not receive nor distribute
eggs from the five farms involved in the recall.
However,
because many agency partners receive eggs from other sources, anyone
with shelled eggs should check the packages to ensure they don't
have contaminated eggs.
An outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) that has sickened hundreds
of people across the country has led to a recall of shell eggs.
On August 13, Wright County Egg voluntarily recalled shell eggs
from three of its five farms. Further epidemiologic and traceback
information led to Wright County Egg expanding its recall on August
18 to cover all five farms and an estimated 380 million eggs. The
FDA is monitoring the recall by conducting audit checks at retail
stores, wholesalers and distributors to ensure the recalled shell
eggs removed from the market. The FDA and Wright
County Egg are
also in contact to ensure preventive measures are put in place to
reduce the risk of recurrence. View
full details on the shell egg recall.
Second
Harvest Foodbank is committed to informing our partner agencies
about recalls immediately. When items distributed by Second
Harvest are recalled, we send an email to all agency partners and
directly contact all agencies that received recalled product from
us. |

| MOBILE
PANTRY VOLUNTEERS--URGENT REQUEST

Harvest Foodbank needs volunteers to assist at our Mobile Pantry

distributions set up outside in parking lots or sometimes inside
due to inclement weather. The food is delivered by Second Harvest
and distributed by volunteers (YOU) at each location one time per
month. They’re another way of getting food to people facing hunger.
Who
should volunteer:
great for teens, parents and grandparents to do a community service
activity together
Volunteer
Duties: help set
up, distribute food, tear down boxes and clean up. Training provided.
